Putting the power into place

The past year has highlighted inequalities and exposed the inadequacy of centralisation while councils are dealing with a threadbare funding system. Cllr Georgia Gould and Baroness Judith Blake say funding and powers for places could make it better.

The pandemic has proven beyond any doubt that local communities are better positioned than any national body to find solutions to the problems we face. Yes, national government wants to deliver its agenda but we must act more locally to be sure that everyone benefits from every penny invested.

It might seem unusual for Leeds and Camden to be working together but the truth is people in every part of our country are crying out to have power over resources and decision making for their local community.
