Questions raised over rates retention

Senior Local Government Association (LGA) figures have called for the sector to reappraise its support for increased business rates retention in light of coronavirus.

Senior Local Government Association (LGA) figures have called for the sector to reappraise its support for increased business rates retention in light of coronavirus.

Speaking at a meeting of the LGA's executive advisory board last week, chair of the resources board, Richard Watts, warned: ‘The threat to income from business rates is going to go on for years to come and therefore we do need to look at alternatives for our long-term sustainability.'
