Reading the small print

Mark Rogers gives his view on the Queen's Speech and considers hints at another devolution drive building in central government

Another Queen's Speech. Another pot pourri. There was, however, in Her Majesty's utterances an important, self-proclaimed key theme namely, using the economy to ‘improve the life chances of the most disadvantaged'. A most welcome and potentially unifying commitment.

But other things continue to baffle. For example, on devolution, HRH said: ‘To spread prosperity, my government will continue to support the development of the Northern Powerhouse'.
