Reimagining culture for our local communities

Arts Council England will stand with local authorities that seize the chance to build a vibrant new reality for every place, born out of creativity, says Darren Henley.

As we emerge from the pandemic, culture, which has been so important in helping many people cope during various lockdowns, remains vital to the economic and social recovery of our cities, towns, and villages.  Local authorities' decades long commitment to culture has ensured that our cultural organisations, including museums and libraries, have been able to play their part in new and innovative ways.  The Arts Council is committed to building upon our existing strong partnerships with local government so that the cultural sector can support our communities to thrive and succeed in the future.

We believe that everyone deserves to have access to high quality cultural opportunities. And they deserve to have the chance to be creative themselves too. These two ideas are at the heart of Let's Create, the Arts Council's new ten-year strategy. Our approach for the next decade of public investment in our national and local culture will initially focus upon our recovery from the effects of pandemic but will also provide the chance to build a future more innovative and more exciting than anything we have seen in the past. Central to this will be our intention to ensure opportunity across all parts of the country and to develop talent everywhere.  We have recently published our first three-year Delivery Plan which sets out a detailed roadmap to achieve the vision.  We will only realise this ambition through effective partnership with local councils in every part of the country.
