Restoring public trust in council data-stewardship

With most of us now going online for public services, the pressure is on for councils to address concerns around data security, writes Andrew Jepp.

More Britons than ever before are now going online to access public services, but it would be wrong to assume that they feel fully confident in doing so.

It is in this light that Zurich Municipal commissioned some new research looking at the public's attitude towards online public services.  The results of which clearly show that councils must do much more to convince the public of their abilities to keep data safe.

Whilst 80% of Britons are now accessing public services online, our research shows that almost a third of Britons do not trust local councils to keep their data safe. Furthermore, just 8% believe councils are well-equipped to deal with a cyber-attack.
