Rigour around regular budget management might feel like a basic but it is crucial to an organisation being able to operate in the kind of uncertain environment we all work in, says Adele Taylor.

As another financial year is ending and budgets are being set for the new financial year, our attention is focused on how closely our original spending plans and resources management are to original plans.

Understanding the things we can control and those we can't is important, but so is how well our early warning and detection systems in finance work to manage any variation and take a different course of action.
