Right to Buy scheme is in need of urgent reform

The Government should use the Spring Budget to set out key reforms to the outdated Right to Buy scheme to ensure it works for everyone, argues Cllr Darren Rodwell.

Last week the secretary of state for levelling up, housing and communities, Michael Gove, made a series of housing announcements aimed at tackling our country's severe shortage of housing.

These involved further relaxing planning controls for permitted development rights which would make it easier for developers to convert office and commercial buildings into residential homes and encouraging councils to prioritise building on brownfield sites.
