How scrutiny has benefitted Wealden

Trevor Scott outlines how Wealden DC's overview and scrutiny committee has improved public health, addressed a spate of traffic injuries and ensured future health provision for the district is properly delivered and funded.

The inquiring minds on Wealden District Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee have inspired a wide range of initiatives to the benefit of the local community.

In the past four years it has provided ready access to cardiac defibrillators in public places,  the ongoing regeneration of 15 village and town high streets and conducted a major enquiry in to the high number of people killed and seriously injured on local roads.

It also brought to light a worrying gap in the way planned future health care provision was missing out in the funding opportunities offered by Section 106 and Community Infrastructure Levy planning contributions.
