The third sector's key role

The voluntary sector has a key role to play in mitigating the impact of council spending cuts says Sir Stephen Bubb.

The TUC has voted unanimously in favour of a ‘national day of action' on November 30th, which could see as many as three million public sector workers go on strike.

The strikes, which are likely to be the biggest since the Winter of Discontent in 1926, result from anger at the planned pension contribution increases for public sector staff, as well as deep unhappiness with the government's plans for cuts to spending on public services.
