The Local Government Association (LGA), the national representative body and national voice for local government, is seeking two exceptional ambassadors to support our member authorities to adapt to the challenges facing public services and promote us as the most trusted part of the public sector.

Executive Director – Finance and Policy

Circa £140,000

London based. Reporting to Carolyn Downs, our Chief Executive, this post is a unique opportunity that will position you at the heart of the local government policy agenda. You will work closely with our Chairman and political group leaders as well as other senior politicians and chief offi cers across local government and the wider public sector. You will have an excellent understanding of local government finance policy and knowledge of all other aspects of local government policy, along with an inspirational leadership style. Your impressive track record will enable you to engage at the most senior levels across Whitehall, local government and beyond.

Head of Programmes – Local Government Finance

Circa £95,000

London based. Whilst you should be prepared to support all the Association's policy work, the prime focus of this role is to lead on local government fi nance and so you will preferably be a qualifi ed accountant and fi nance specialist with direct experience and professional credibility in the sector. Working closely with the Chief Executive, Executive Director, member authorities and councillors of the LGA, you will develop and commission cutting-edge and innovative policy work, building partnerships across the sector. You will also need to have outstanding influencing, lobbying, communication, negotiating and relationship building skills.



The drive for greater localism and improved outcomes for all councils across England and Wales mean influencing across the political spectrum is crucial.
