Sharing the lessons of malware

With cyber attacks on the rise, Richard Wills explains how Lincolnshire CC is drawing on its first-hand experience of hacking to strengthen its resilience for the next time.

Worldwide cyber attacks in May paralysed parts of one of the UK's best-loved institutions – the NHS, including the hospitals trust here in Lincolnshire. Immediately, as the scale and method of attack were unknown, the council disconnected from N3, the national NHS network, as well as urging staff to be extra vigilant when opening emails, visiting websites and using removable media.

Although this authority remained largely unaffected, the WannaCry ransomware attack brought back vivid memories of being in the frontline against the hackers last year.
