Should they stay or go?

It’s understandable that a long serving CE would want to protect their legacy and leave on a high, says Blair McPherson. ‘Then again very few get to choose the timing of their departure.’

The long serving chief executive (CE)was due to retire at the end of the year but the council is experiencing a difficult period. The CE wants to stay and turn things round. 

No one is blaming them for the present difficulties in view of their impressive track record but some members are questioning whether the cabinet should be trying so hard to persuade them to stay.
