The Work Programme has been heralded by members of the Cabinet as a key example of the scale of Government's ambition to reform public services.

Ahead of the work programme's launch, messages from the Coalition excited enthusiasm from Third sector organisations over what looked set to be an opportunity for a far greater level of service provision in welfare to work. Many were also encouraged by the emphasis on the need for targeted support for the hardest to reach.
