Social care fiasco needs a culture change as well as funds

Delayed discharges are just a fraction of the social care story – albeit an exorbitant one – there is a failure of the health and social care system that needs a radical overhaul, says Heather Jameson.

What used to be a national social care crisis is long gone. We are now in the midst of a social care fiasco – and people are suffering as a result.

Decades of rising pressures and dwindling budgets, and now the Government's backtrack on funding earlier this week, have left social care on its knees. Every review, every think-tank, every commentator points to the same thing: social care is in vital need of attention and – crucially – cash.
