Making a solid case against short-term service savings

The best councils look outwards to engage with their communities, plotting long-term changes across the whole of the next Parliament. They don’t get by on yearby- year expedients, writes Daniel Goodwin

A month on from the elections and many councils are looking to the tasks of the coming year and planning for the future.

Elsewhere, there has been little change in power and it might be tempting to think that the future will look like the recent past.  There are budget worries, but everyone has managed somehow.
