Taking the blame for cuts in local services

Local government has made a good fist of cutting budgets, but is there a tipping point? Asks Ben Page.

I come with good news! It may be tough, and you may be under fire from your own Secretary of State. But as councils head into the third year of an unprecedented programme of spending cuts, Westminster is taking the brunt of the blame for cuts in local services.

Voters overwhelmingly say they trust local authorities to make the right decisions about the future (79%) compared to just one in 10 (11%) who trust the Government.
