Taking the energy network modelling route towards net zero

Chris Anton explains how energy network modelling is helping Perth and Kinross council hit net zero.

Building stock is a huge priority for local councils up and down the country, and many are strategising how they can reduce energy consumption across their properties in order to hit their net zero goals. As local authorities are funded by the taxpayer, councils have to ensure that every penny counts, and reducing energy usage and optimising the way energy is used within buildings are key methods of lowering costs.

Cutting-edge digital twin technology from climate tech firm IES is helping Perth and Kinross Council make Perth Academy Campus, an estate consisting of six buildings, more energy efficient. We decided upon digital twin software to determine how to approach our district heating project and to work out what interventions would be the most effective.
