Taking public health right to the top

Many directors of public health have the leadership approach, experience and technical ability to make excellent chief executives and they need the opportunities to reach the top role, says Julia Weldon.

What qualifies me to write a piece on directors of public health (DPHs) and leadership 10 years after the return of DPHs to local government?

I was not on the stage at the annual Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH) conference in December, but was reflecting with colleagues about the DPHs of the moment and my thoughts about the challenges and opportunities for those currently in these positions and those who succeed them.
