Tax rebates - a never-ending task for finance teams?

Issuing council tax rebates to alleviate soaring energy costs sounds simple enough until you start to unravel what it really means to deliver, says Adele Taylor

When it comes to the announcement that we would be paying £150 to band A-D taxpayers it sounds simple enough until you start to unravel what it really means to deliver this despite the good intentions we can all agree with.

I'm sure one of the first questions we asked was how many people would we be paying and, of those, how many do we actually have bank account details for. I have to admit I went pale when I found out that, of the roughly half eligible in my borough, we do not have details for about a third of them. I went even paler when I was told it was the equivalent of more than double the number of businesses we had dealt with through our business grants schemes.
