Transforming the world one run at a time

Parkrun generates tangible health, wellbeing and economic benefits in Worcestershire without the need for large financial investment, changing people, places and communities for the better, says Lisa McNally

On 2 October 2004, a man went down to his local park in London with some friends.  What they did there would change the world.  Although they didn't realise it at the time.

That day, Paul Sinton-Hewitt organised the first ever parkrun event. 13 people ran around a 5k course, and five people volunteered.  Twenty years later parkrun is a registered charity and  a global phenomenon.
