Union dilution warning over merging of roles

The union that represents senior local government managers has called for the independent roles of chief financial officer and chief executive to be kept separate.

The union that represents senior local government managers has called for the independent roles of chief financial officer and chief executive to be kept separate.

In a new policy position statement, the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (ALACE) warned the combination of the roles could ‘weaken the ability of senior officers to speak truth unto power' and would ‘significantly dilute' the capacity of the functions.
