Give us fiscal freedom and devolution – not tighter controls

There is a huge irony attached to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's (MHCLG) response to the latest National Audit Office (NAO) report.

The report cites some of the well-rehearsed arguments on the state of local government – budget cuts, rising demand and increased pressure on services.
