Why we must value our care workers

Individuals in the social care workforce deserve to be paid, trained and valued in a way consistent with what society expects of them, argues Ray James

Now I am at the end of my year as president of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), colleagues across the sector have been prompting me to reflect on an eventful year and think about what's coming next.

I was grateful for such generous support from colleagues – especially in Enfield – when I agreed to stand, particularly given that the year would see a General Election, a Spending Review, the implementation of the Care Act and an increasing pace of integration.
