VOA to appeal cash machines ruling

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) wants to appeal to the Supreme Court after a judge ruled shop-based cash machines were exempt from separate business rates.

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) wants to appeal to the Supreme Court after a judge ruled shop-based cash machines were exempt from separate business rates.

Lord Justice Lindblom, sitting in the Appeal Court last month, ruled that separate rates should not be paid on cash machines outside stores, meaning they are in line for a refund from councils on rates dating back to 2010 – estimated to be worth up to £500m.
