During lockdown the British have remained largely positive rather than negative with the way their local councils run things, with two in five people (40%) saying that they're satisfied with their local council while a quarter (25%) saying they're dissatisfied – not necessarily a bad performance after a 60% cut in grant from central government.

In an age where levelling up is the mantra (let's not get into the ‘how's' right now) it is notable that voters everywhere tend to feel national government in Westminster spends less on their area than elsewhere – only 7% think they get more than the national average. Despite the North East actually getting more current spending per capita than any other region in 2019-20, residents there are most likely to think they have a raw deal (71%)
