The local elections could be turned into a ‘proxy vote on party politics and Brexit' by the General Election weeks later, a think-tank boss has warned.

In an online opinion piece for The MJ, chief executive of the LGiU, Jonathan Carr-West, said the decision not to co-ordinate the timing of the General Election reflected the Government's ‘lack of interest in local elections'.
