Website users need a better connection

Council websites are still proving difficult for users to navigate and find information about services, according to the latest SOCITM survey, writes Vicky Sargent.

Fewer than half of the 91 council websites redesigned between April 2016 and March 2017 achieved the pass mark in both of two key performance tests carried out as part of SOCITM's Better Connected survey.

The long-running annual programme tests the performance of all UK council websites from a customer perspective, using a series of mystery shopping tests carried out by a team of reviewers.
