A welcome step towards more financial control?

With the paused business rates retention steering board and working groups resuming, Sheila Little assesses what this means for the direction of travel of council finances.

Last month Pete Moore talked about the digital age and pondered the challenges and opportunities this might pose for local government, wondering whether R2D2 or C3P0 might help?

This got me thinking; we love an acronym in local government, not usually with numbers but frequently with three letters: CSR, DSG, CSP, RSG, ESG… Some of these are disappearing fast as government funding alters while others are emerging: BRR (business rates retention), FFR (fair funding review).
