Welsh public bodies spending £133m a year on consultants

Report by the Auditor General for Wales says the Welsh public sector is failing to show how it gets value for money from consultants.

The Welsh public sector is failing to demonstrate how it gets value for money from consultants, according to a new report by the Auditor General for Wales.

The report shows that while the amount spent on consultancy services has fallen by £40m since 2007-08, the public sector is still spending £133m a year on consultancy fees. Most are failing to collect and analyse data on expenditure, and rarely consider alternatives such as using internal staff instead of consultants.
