Something's got to give and Whitehall must deliver

Local authorities will continue to prop up adult social care and do their best to deliver their statutory duties, but the squeeze can only go so far, writes Heather Jameson.

Great news for local government – it looks like the Government is earmarking extra cash for adult social care in next week's Budget.

The bad news is it looks suspiciously like the extra cash will be recycled from local government ‘efficiency savings' after the Treasury announced it expected departmental savings of 3-6%.
