'Write off our debts to save services,' say Green MSPs

Green MSPs have called for £11.5bn of long-term debt held by Scotland’s councils to be written off so they can focus on protecting public services.

Green MSPs have called for £11.5bn of long-term debt held by Scotland's councils to be written off so they can focus on protecting public services.

Figures highlighted by the Greens showed that Scottish councils spent almost £1bn on repayments to the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB) in 2015/16 and still owe almost £9bn.
