Councils brace as Supreme Court outlaws Rwanda asylum plan

The Supreme Court has ruled the UK’s controversial proposal to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda is unlawful – a decision likely to impact local government.

In a unanimous decision today, five Supreme Court judges led by Lord Reed said there was a ‘real risk’ that asylum seekers sent to Rwanda could end up back in the country they were fleeing – where they could be subject to inhumane treatment.
