Multi-year finance settlements are ‘far and away the biggest thing' the new government could do to stabilise councils and boost communities, senior managers have reported.

Wasting no time following the General Election, the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (Solace) this week sent a new report on the ‘state of the local nation' to incoming Labour ministers – including Prime Minister Keir Starmer – urging them to reform local finances and services.
