Government crackdown on capital spending

Councils face fresh restraints on capital spending under Government plans to lessen borrowing risks.

As part of Whitehall’s initiative to improve local government’s financial sustainability, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) will be handed further powers to intervene in cases where it believes there is ‘excessive’ risk attached to capital borrowing.
