Gove's pay plan dismissed as 'unnecessary gimmick'

Communities secretary Michael Gove’s embryonic plan to require full councils to approve salaries above £100,000 has been dismissed as an ‘unnecessary gimmick’ by sector figures.

Mr Gove is reportedly considering forcing councils to rubber-stamp all packages worth more than £100,000 under Whitehall attempts to bring more local accountability to town hall spending.
