New research: Whitehall needs to focus on preventative policies

Whitehall is regularly drawn into costly and reactionary spending cycles to mitigate crises within the NHS and adult social care, but is failing to tackle the underlying causes, a study has found.

The latest Performance Tracker report, published today by the Institute for Government (IfG) and Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), assessed 100 data sets across nine key public services.
