Alexander offers fiscal devolution

Chief secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander has pledged a ‘new era of municipal empowerment’ and said he will look at devolving more taxes – including stamp duty.

Chief secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander has pledged a ‘new era of municipal empowerment' and said he will look at devolving more taxes – including stamp duty.

Speaking at the Core Cities Summit in Glasgow, Mr Alexander suggested business rates should be fully devolved to cities, and while devolving stamp duty ‘would be complex' it should be considered.
