WORKFORCE

Assistant Director (Schools and Learning)

Circa £80,000

Ref: DCC/13/6223

County Hall, Matlock

Derbyshire is a beautiful place to live and work and we are justly proud of our schools and our Children and Younger Adults Services.

On 02 May 2013 Labour regained control of the county council and over the next four years will seek a fair deal for Derbyshire, listen to what people say, understand what they need and provide strong leadership to deliver services which meet those needs. Whilst in the interests of our children we will work collaboratively with all our learning providers, the authority is a proponent of the democratically accountable maintained school system.

Derbyshire County Council employees are our most valuable asset and we invite you to join this team and share in our aspiration to provide every child with a good or outstanding education. We are now seeking an exceptional candidate with significant and current experience of schools and learning provision to join our senior management team. You will lead our Journey to Excellence, our strategy to improve teaching and learning across the county, resulting in better progress for all whilst closing the gap for our most vulnerable groups.

You will have strategic leadership for our Education Improvement Services including Early Years, Schools and Adult Education, promoting a culture of lifelong learning and achievement. You will also lead services with highly committed teams who support our vulnerable learners across SEN, Access and Inclusion, Education Psychology, Behaviour Support and Alternative Provision.

Our integrated approach to Schools and Learning enables us to work in partnership with all children's services, schools, settings and centres to make Derbyshire an outstanding county of learning. If you share our ambition to achieve outstanding provision for all learners, we invite you to join us on our journey.

You will need to have current exemplary educational leadership experience and skills, matched with the ability to develop productive and strategic working relationships in a political environment. You must also be able to demonstrate, promote and model effective partnership working to enable you to develop and lead strategies for the Education Improvement Services.

For a confidential and informal discussion about this exciting opportunity please contact Ian Thomas, Strategic Director on 01629 532000.

All interviews will be at County Hall, Matlock.
