Breaking the cycle and boosting communities

Cllr Judith Blake argues for place-based budgeting to break down barriers between economic and social policy.

In an otherwise underwhelming Budget, it was good to hear chancellor Philip Hammond mention ‘inclusive growth'. He identified skills and education as a way of achieving what Theresa May calls ‘an economy that works for everyone'.

He stopped short of providing what Core Cities and other places need: more control over skills budgets so we can spend the money better and create the workforces cities will need in the 21st century.
