Businesses should decide how much they pay in business rates

Council leaders have insisted businesses should be able to decide how much they pay in business rates to protect authorities from the costly appeals system.

Council leaders have insisted businesses should be able to decide how much they pay in business rates to protect authorities from the costly appeals system.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has made the announcement in light of George Osborne's plans to allow council's to retain 100% of business rates by 2020, which means councils will have to fork out full refunds to businesses that make successful appeals, as opposed to the current 50%.
