The Northern Powerhouse will benefit the West Midlands, the prime minister has said, after fears it could be left behind as the North takes centre-stage in devolution discussions.

Speaking in the House of Commons yesterday, David Cameron insisted the region would be a ‘future engine for growth' for the whole of the UK after Lichfeld MP Michael Fabricant asked for reassurance that the West Midlands would secure the ‘best devolution deal possible'.
