Slough BC's leadership should take ‘immediate action' as the council is at risk of going £11m over budget this year, according to cabinet papers.
The council, which was forced to declare effective bankruptcy in 2021 and earlier this year agreed in principle a capitalisation direction worth £23m, overspent by £14m over the past year, mostly the result of increased demand on adult social care and homelessness services.
Officers said Slough's financial recovery was ‘heavily dependent' on the sale of assets. However, the council only managed to raise £224m from asset sales by the end of March – far short of its £400m target.
