Prime minister Theresa May has come under fire from her own party for ‘downgrading’ the portfolio for children within the Department for Education.

Prime minister Theresa May has come under fire from her own party for ‘downgrading' the portfolio for children within the Department for Education (DfE).

Nadhim Zahawi is understood to be taking on the children's services role but as parliamentary under secretary – the most junior ministerial position.
