City of York Council has approved plans to close two North Yorkshire care homes for the elderly, amid fears the largest providers could be forced to pull out of supplying services because of the growing financial crisis.

City of York Council has approved plans to close two North Yorkshire care homes for the elderly, amid fears the largest providers could be forced to pull out of supplying services because of the growing financial crisis.

The proposals to shut the homes were agreed despite more than 3,000 residents signing two petitions in opposition.
