Birmingham City Council's new leader has done more since taking up the role a fortnight ago than had been achieved in the last year, according to the opposition boss. 

Speaking at the independent improvement panel progress meeting one year on from Sir Bob Kerslake's damning report, Conservative group leader Robert Alden said there had already been ‘encouraging progress' and ‘significant change'.
