Public services are going through a period of great change, residents need to know what is going on in their local area, says Carolyn Downs.

Public services are going through a period of great change, residents need to know what is going on in their local area.

As I visit councils around the country I get the opportunity to read many residents' magazines. I was recently in Gedling and their magazine, Contacts, is an excellent example of councils providing their residents with useful information about everything from library and leisure centre opening times, to local job opportunities for young people, recycling schemes and public consultations.
