Levelling up minister Andrew Stephenson was this week challenged over Whitehall's homelessness statistics – with political opponents concerned about a recent surge in numbers.

Mr Stephenson told Parliament the number of people who have been homeless or threatened with homelessness in the past year ‘is 4% lower than pre-Covid 19 levels'.
