Local government leaders have called for greater powers to build new homes after report revealed at least 80,000 social rented homes could be lost by 2020.

Local government leaders have called for greater powers to build new homes after a report revealed at least 80,000 social rented homes could be lost by 2020. 

The Local Government Association (LGA) has today revealed this drop in affordable council rented housing would drive up the housing benefit bill by £210m by the end of this Parliament as more families move into the more expensive private rented sector.
