Council leader 'confident' Solent deal will be approved

The leader of Southampton City Council has said he is ‘confident’ the Isle of Wight Council will approve plans for a combined authority next week, despite members rejecting the deal earlier this week.

The leader of Southampton City Council has said he is ‘confident' the Isle of Wight Council will approve plans for a combined authority next week, despite members rejecting the deal earlier this week.

Isle of Wight councillors rejected a motion put forward by their leader, Cllr Jonathan Bacon, on 19 October, which called on the local authority's executive to ask the government to establish a new authority made up of Southampton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight council leaders, and an elected mayor.
