Council split in reserves behaviour

Local authorities with upper-tier responsibilities drew down from their reserves while other councils added to their stocks of reserves, according to the independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).

Local authorities with upper-tier responsibilities drew down from their reserves while other councils added to their stocks of reserves, according to the independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).

The OBR highlighted 2016/17 figures that showed upper-tier authorities drew down £1.4bn compared to districts that stockpiled an additional £0.2bn.
